Play Safe in the Sun Forges Ahead with a New Sponsor, A Broadened Focus and Exciting Line-Up of Outreach Events

Thanks to a generous $750,000 grant from La Roche-Posay, the Women’s Dermatologic Society’s award-winning Play Safe in the Sun Campaign will continue for another three years. With thanks to our new corporate sponsor, La Roche-Posay, the award-winning WDS Play Safe in the Sun Campaign will continue to work at curbing the incidence of skin cancer by providing free screenings, sun damage assessments, sun safety education, and free sunscreen to the public for another three years—featuring a broadened focus and an exciting line-up of outreach events that signal a turning point in this WDS Service program.

Under the stewardship of the WDS Service Committee, co-chaired by Mona Gohara, MD and Kavita Mariwalla, MD, the diversified new program will go beyond its traditional targets of golf, tennis and outdoor enthusiasts to reach out to family members of all ages and skin types at large-scale urban festivals and for the first time ever, to the breast cancer community. This important new element to the program was inspired by significant medical research linking higher rates of melanoma in breast cancer patients, and similarly, higher breast cancer rates among skin cancer patients.

In addition, members may create or participate in their own activities in their communities and offices, with support and resources provided by WDS as part of the popular grassroots initiative, Coast-to-Coast.

Join us in this rewarding and fun outreach by volunteering in your community at one of the events below or through Coast-to-Coast.
