The Women's Dermatologic Society invites you to be part of the "Families Play Safe in the Sun Campaign" coming to Long Beach, CA on October 27 - 29, 2005 as the result of a generous grant WDS received from the 3M Foundation. This campaign was launched in Boston, MA on June 30th and Minnesota on August 3rd and received rave reviews throughout the communities. This is an exciting opportunity for you to speak out locally about the importance of sun safety and target that message to families.
We have a number of very exciting events planned that offer something for everyone -- and we need your involvement. Below is a schedule of events - please take a look:
At the Long Beach Convention Center at the California Governor and First Lady's Conference on Women and Families, WDS will share a very large exhibit booth with 3M and will provide free skin cancer screenings from the booth. There we will promote our "Families Play Safe in the Sun" message and distribute our materials to conference attendees.
The theme of this year's conference is: Women as Architects of Change: Lessons on Leadership, Activism, and Family.

Over 10,500 women are expected to attend the conference and there will be over 275 exhibits.

We will have a 20 x 20 exhibit tent outdoors at the entrance of the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach between the hours of 9am - 4pm Friday, October 28 would be targeted to school groups and Saturday, October 29 would be targeted to families.
This dynamic educational outreach, geared for young families and children, will feature WDS volunteers conducting various sun safety activities, including: - Sun safety quiz
- Coloring contest
- UV reflectance camera photographs
- Dermascan assessments
- Distribution of free sunscreen and resource materials
